19. May 2022
With the Tampere Film Festival returning on-site from 9th-13th March, our Nordic cousins will be ready to welcome the usual diverse representation from the Baltics during the festival. In the festival’s International Competition, two Baltic films will be on offer for the audiences.
TECHNO, MAMA (Saulius Baradinskas, Lithuania, 2021)
is a kinetic drama about Nikite who wants to go to Berlin and visit a techno club. But his desires are unknown by his mother and soon they clash about their desires for the future. After premiering at Venice 2021, the film’s screening at Tampere continues a popular run for the film which has also screened at numerous festivals including London and Winterthur.
BURIED IN EUROPE / MAETUD EUROOPAS (Hardi Volmer, Urmas Jõemees, Estonia, 2021)
focuses on cemetery architecture throughout Europe. Using the animation technique hyperlapse, which the duo used to dazzling effect in their previous film Urbanimatio, the film magically captures everything related to the traditions of commemorating the deceased in Europe over the past 5,000 years.
