Estonia

In Estonia you will find a vibrant film community and excellent opportunities for production and starting your film's festival life.

Estonia is widely known for their trademark author animation, with established and emerging animators keeping us on the map. They are now followed by filmmaking talent in short films and VFX, recognised by film festivals around the world. Many get their start at the Academy Award and EFA-qualifying PÖFF Shorts, the short film and animation satellite of the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, one of the few A-list film festivals in the world.

Latvia

Latvian short films combine strong auteur animation, socially challenging documentaries and up and coming fictions, that introduce Latvia and Baltics in a new unexpected way!

Latvian Shorts are represented by 2ANNAS – Riga International short film festival, Riga International film festival (RIGA IFF) and Latvian Animation Association.

Riga International Short Film Festival 2ANNAS is the oldest short film festival in the region. 2ANNAS 2022 will take place for the 26th time and as usual offers original, innovative, challenging, socially active short films and medium-length films to viewers. Alongside the festival, 2ANNAS also holds open discussions between film viewers and creators, participates in a variety of cultural events and goes on tour every year, showing the most vivid works in different places of Latvia from programs of previous years of the festival.

RIGA IFF is actively looking for new auteur films and is one of 24 international short film competitions that presents a selected film with a candidacy in the short film category of the European Film Awards. Parallel to the festival, an industry event SHORT RIGA Test Screenings is taking place, which serves as a springboard to the Baltic filmmakers for getting into the festival circuit and is the only such event in the region.

Since 2016 Latvian Animation Association represents the community of filmmakers - directors and artists, producers, critics and students and teachers of animated film in Latvia. LAA is the most comprehensive source of information on Latvian animation news and professionals. The association not only collaborates with various festivals to promote Latvian and Baltic animation abroad, but also delivers the new trends of animated film to the Latvian society in collaboration with local NGO's.
